Australia Post celebrates Chinese New Year

Australia Post wished our customers Gong Xi Fa Cai (Happy Lunar New Year) as part of the City of Manningham Chinese New Year festival in Doncaster, Victoria over the weekend.

China is a key focus area for the international business, as Chinese consumers are increasingly turning to Australia Post to deliver high quality products to their family and friends overseas.

As part of the partnership, Australia Post hosted a pop-up stall at two events during the three-week long celebrations enjoyed by the Chinese community.

The team met with locals, handing out Australia Post branded red packets (traditional gifts during Chinese New Year), year of the dog coins and stamps, and branded felt lanterns.

A koala mascot in a postie uniform posed for photos, delighting children and adults alike during the event, and $700 was raised from sales of small Australia Post plush koalas, with proceeds going to Half the Sky Foundation – a foundation that helps improve the quality of life and future prospects for orphans in China.

Steven Foo, Head of Business Development Asia spoke to the crowd alongside other dignitaries.

 “We are honoured to be here today, to celebrate the Year of The Earth Dog. We can see many similarities between the Earth Dog and our hope for an ongoing friendship here in Manningham.

A dog is a person’s best friend - they are loyal, friendly and kind. The earth seeks to nurture and be nurtured as it anchors and provides stability. This loyalty and stability is very symbolic to all of us at Australia Post. We have been a part of Australia’s community for 209 years, providing reliable, friendly services to our customers. A big thanks to local Post Offices in the area who promoted the event to our customers, including stores in Mt Waverley, Springvale, Box Hill, Brandon Park, Clayton, Forest Hill, Doncaster, Doncaster Heights.

In the lead up to Chinese New Year, our international marketplaces Tmall, Lazada, JD and Little Red Book (Xiao Hong Shu) also hosted online promotions to encourage online shopping which typically spikes in the lead up to the festivities.
